Cooking over Lit Wooden piles

Postby Altoscholto » Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:02 pm

Hi.
I am relatively new, and have been increasingly frustrated by how hard it is to actually cook something on a lit pile of wood (pile of wood being the 'structure' built with 4 brances)

I have lit 4 fires, and attempted to cook items (that i have had the requisite level and recipe and items etc) to cook, but only succeeded in being able to cook 2 times out of over 300 attempts.
All the other times say "You need to be using a fire" when I clearly am next to a fire.. esp given the 2 occasions i managed to be standing in exactly the correct position.

My friend also had alot of trouble getting the lit wooden pile to work as a cooking fire... Is this a recent issue or is there some secret i clearly dont know?

Just make sure you right-click the fire before you attempt to do anything that uses it. The same goes for all other "tools" such as anvils, looms, etc.

edit: Just to clarify, standing "next to" isn't enough. You must be "interacting with" the object. With fires, you don't need to do anything immediately after you light it. If you move, you need to right click on it again. This goes for the pile of wood, fireplace, and stove. For other tools, you'll always need to right click on the object first. Right clicking is a big thing in Salem. Try right clicking as well as left clicking everything. You might have some surprises.

Right clicking the object moves you into "position" then you'll be able to cook, and/or use whatever machine you need to use.
