Is the progression linear?

Postby nonsonogiucas » Wed Jun 11, 2014 9:41 am

I'm mainly interested from a theoretical stand point, how much does a character actual capability increase with the increase of its stats?

For example damage dealt to npcs / pcs, does it scale linearly on yellow bile or does it grow faster early in the game, or maybe accelerates?

I didn't have time to figure it all by myself, but I noticed how early in the game I had to replenish black bile for the purpose of consuming inspirationals a lot more frequently... is that always true? As you get more and more black bile along with better food, do the inspirationals you use consume more black bile or does it become easier?

Did you find a trend in the progression on the other biles? What about proficiencies?

Thanks!
I was lucky...

Thank you for directing me to a source of information! I had in fact used the wiki, more often than not though I have been visiting the wiki by directly searching for information on the issue that was at hand in that specific moment like "Sparks & Embers" or "Food"...

I admit it, not only I haven't read all pages but I also for some reason assumed that my question about progression trend, or rather how that trend feels for a player, would not be addressed in the wiki... I'll promptly go search in the wiki for information on the topic.

I''ve read the wiki page on damage and it turns out that basically damage is square root of yellow bile multiplied some scaling factors... this fact is really interesting if you think that the square root function behaves this way:

I even went as far as inputing the actual formula I found on the wiki in a spreadsheet so as reference, while looking at the image linked you can imagine the 5 on the x to roughly translate to 75 Yellow Bile and the 25 x to 375 yellow bile.

I've experienced the damage to be fairly linear. Partially due to my bile going up fairly constantly but also because at first raising biles is easier, then when the direct increase from bile starts to flatten a bit you should reach the point where you add artifices etc into the mix.

All in all there is a pretty strong linear-ish scaling in combat power. (Bit of a design issue, imo, since it gives such an advantage to the older players.)

Basically everything in this game has diminishing returns as it increases.

I think around 50 biles it gets a bit tiresome for lone players, if more of the foods were actually useful it would make it more fun to create dishes ^_^
