Finding iron mines with a woo-woo-wand?

I've been using a woo-woo-wand so far in order to find a mine, but all I ever get pointed to is well spots, which is annoying.
Is it even possible to find a mine with such a wand or will I have to invest in Dowsing Rods? Are the Dowsing Rods ignoring well spots? This alone would make it worth it to me.

Invest in rods. Try to buy them from another player so you can get a little purity. After the woo woo wand purity nerf, it seems like they no longer find iron points at all. I reported this as a bug on the tracker, but I don't think it has been fixed yet, if it ever will be.

Dowsing rods do ignore well spots. They find iron and copper nodes.

I found my first iron mine with wand, so it is possible. But I couldn't find a single well around my base. Is that possible? I mean are wells that rare or am I just blind?
