Clothing

Can someone explain to the best of their abilities what all of the things mean when your hover over clothes. I don't know what "Difficulty: 25 to 10" means, I don't know what the proficiency labels mean, and I don't know how slotting items helps. I mean I can assume that slotting a certain item will benefit the clothing in that certain way but I'd like to know the mechanics behind it. I'd really appreciate any help because I'm just saving certain items so I don't ruin the clothing.

From what I remember:

You gear can be slotted with special items, artifacts. Both artifacts and cloths have their difficulty, which simply means maximum and minimum chance to fail when slotting item.

Proficiency labels show which proficiency is associated with particular artifact / piece of clothing.

When you try to slot an item there is this calculation made - the levels of proficiencies, which appear both on artifact and on clothing, are summed up. For each 50 in this sum the chance of failing shifts towards minimum by 50% of the "distance". And you can fail the difficulty test on both artifact and on clothing. If none of proficiencies on artifact and clothing match, or if their sum is lower than 50, then maximum chance of fail is used.

So, let's say, you have a clothing with difficulty 40 to 20, and related proficiencies of NP, F&W and L&L. And you have an artifact with difficulty of 30 to 10, with proficiencies NP, L&L, S&C.
In this case NP and L&L match, so we take the sum of the levels of those profs. Let's say you have 65 NP and 45 L&L. Together 110. That means chance to fail will be reduced twice.
On clothing from 40% to 30% and then from 30% to 25%.
On artifact from 30% to 20% and then from 20% to 15%.
In the end your chance to succeed will be (100%-25%)*(100%-15%) = 63%

Okay I have gone through both. So the type of proficiencies only determine how much of a chance the item will be slotted? It will not help that certain proficiency in any way? The only benefit you will get is the damage/defensive stat under those?
For example Farmers hat will not be helping me in any way with Stocks & Cultivars. Only my Stocks & Cultivars level will be helping me slot an item. Given the item also has a Stocks difficulty value.
Correct?

Yes, but certain artifacts give non combat benefits too.
Some let you dig faster.
Some let you cut trees, cut boards, cut wood blocks faster.
Some let you cook faster.

Right I see that now, too. Any chance there's a link to all artifacts?

Would trying to slot and Etterfang into a Chief's Headdress be a bad idea for me at the moment?

Etterfang: Difficulty 75 to 0 Cloak & Dagger, Sugar and Spice
Headdress: Difficulty 45 to 10 Cloak & Dagger (only matching proficiency)

My C&D is only at 19 right now so I'm assuming from all of the information I've read so far that it would have a low chance of working. I don't want to try it though and lose the etterfang and a slot in the headdress as they're both hard to come by.

You can right click with the artifact on clothing. You will have your chance displayed then (in flower menu) and you can decide
