i can't run salem.jar or updater

hi! when i try to run salem.jar or updater all i can see is just a black screen. I can't run with Ati high performance mode. please help me.

do you play on fullscreen ? if so, try not to.
If you don't: is this a custom client, or the vanilla client?

Probably has to do with rendering shadows. Try setting that variable to FALSE.
