Questions about proposed trial town membership

1) did you change coal clamp / smelter / oven lighting / + probably more stuff, so that it does not require waste anymore? If not, trial village members will be severely crippled in their usefulness.
2) Do you intend to fix parties? Or can a trial member still party up to transfer his allowances (theft in this case, not waste) to the party members?

1) Yes, all fixed to our knowledge. The majority of those actions are now tresspassing crimes.

2) We don't have any intention to fix 'parties' as we don't consider them broken. A Trial member will not transfer waste, quite simply because he does not have it. He can party non-town members and they would be able to tresspass and larceny from the town.

Seems fair to me since if you catch a trial member letting raiders into the town, all you have to do is remove all trial members from your town, block off the gate, and Bam! Raiders in a can!

Of course, it's a little more complicated than that, I suppose, but a raider will still have to be crazy to enter a town they can't break a big hole in.

Nice.

A well designed town can actually keep trial members without it being suicide? That's a good first step to adding a bit of player interaction to Salem.

Not even necessarily well designed. You simply invite somebody, and they are a trial member. You must go out of your way to promote them and give them the ability to party people for waste etc. etc.

In most cases they'd need access to gates though.

Without some added design they could simply use their key, give it to a would-be raider & use party to pose a pretty big risk. Then again it's probably suicide for the raider too, I reckon.

Yes, we had no intention of making it so Trial Members cannot use gates. As that is just cumbersome and unrealistic. The town could simply close the doors on the raiders, getting them all killed or trapped inside the town so there is most certainly risk to all parties, as it should be in Salem.

How about making it so that trial members get a teleport function, teleporting them out of the city in the nearest spot if they want to get out?

How would they get back in? What if the town consists of more than one large enclosed space? Did you hit your head recently?

Obviously the same way. Did YOU hit your head recently?

Get close to the town border, use the teleport command, success. If there is a wall, use it again and you will be teleported over the wall.
