We have some idea of how big the world IS...

How big can the world be? Daggerfall was 63294 sq miles, would the game engine be capable of reaching those lengths? Counting each square as about a yard of course.

The game engine was just revamped with Oculus Rift technology to support much more. The problem is that it is currently not round, if you were to walk around the world to the west after about 19 hours you start walking "Closer" to Providence than further away from it, by this math you can assume that the world is 38 hours to transverse it in a full circle (which currently can only be done by walking far enough north and ending up on the southern wall). Each tile was measured in Meters not the preferred unit of measurement "feet" or "yards". As such, it is difficult if not impossible to convert it to the superior measurement of "Square Miles", however, our rough algorithms place it at approx 62,382,831 Square miles with the outside edges being more like cone shapes because the world is not actually a square.

Wow I thought the world was smaller. I mean I knew it was big but I didn't think it would dwarf daggerfall like that.

Yep, it is too big to have any meaningful interactions imo.

"Hey guys I'm being raided come help."
"Sure I hate that person that is raiding you, where is your base?"
"12 hours west"
"Screw that. Have fun watching your town burn."

Some of that can be blamed on the wilderness guide and the small numbers that use this game but yeah, I kind of agree.

So you would want to build region specific alliances, an ally on the opposite side of that map should be hard to call in to the battle it adds more meaning to where you build your main base and encourages groups to try to control an area rather than just the entire map. The problem isn't that the map is too big for this type of game but that the population is too small for many meaningful interactions.

Which brings us right back to the fact that the map is too big.
