Well it's come and gone and seen by millions. The supposed release info or possible Fallout 4 tease site turned out to be a devoted fan of the Fallout series attempting to get Bethesda to admit that it was actually developing a new Fallout game for next year. The site included a countdown, Java script specifically hinting at Fallout code, 3 updated puzzles and a changing Morse code mystery. It was registered under an old gaming name that Bethesda's partner company Zenimax had used back in it's early days, and because of the massive traffic the site probably cost the guy thousands of dollars to maintain.

After it went viral, the site was reviewed by hundreds of game players on Twitch, Youtube and almost every major Gaming Site. The Wikipedia page on it has been taken down due to massive edit trolling and arguments.

Here's the site now: http://thesurvivor2299.com/

After Shocks and Postscripts:

http://metro.co.uk/2013/12/09/fallout-4-survivor-2299-hoax-creator-admits-im-a-douche-4223270/

This site and fan, who is apparently trying to remain anonymous due to death threats is now being considered the greatest 'Game Troll' of all time.

Your thoughts?

Everyone on #reloaded knew it was fake for a long time before it was "outed".
0/10. Not even mad.

after Bethesdas reaction to Notch and Scrolls I bet they ordered the charade dropped on some legal pretense. It didn't seem to be a troll though, given that it was being done to supposedly get a response from Bethesda. Not sure how the act leads to the release of any information though. Seems kind of stupid.

It got to the point where the Bethesda exec's and dev's felt they had to respond and were being called out on the forum. It was basically trolling Bethesda and sucked in all the fans with it. This weeks secret release of some info to gaming sites may have been a response to placate the fans.

The Charade never dropped. They only used one video at the end of the clock and it was just some old Youtube video from someone else. It was basically a Reddit group that did it but was funded by one guy.

How much time/money you put into the website?
Hosting: 30$ Traffic (15TB) 60$ Phone number: Approximately 900$.
Also apparently, it ended early because the guy got drunk and decided to put a rick roll video since bethesda didnt announce anything

There are rumors Bethesda is working on F4 after all with some details about game being very similar to what was presented on that fake page.

Also, F1, F2 and fallout tactics are available for free on gog.com, till tomorrow.

If you ever pay attention to any Bethesda game you tend to take not one one thing: Anything not mentioned on their blog is *****. Actually, that is common sense. How the hell no one understand that by now would be to a lacking thereof common sense and basic thinking/research skills.

It's much more fun to talk about rumors than wait for official announcements.

True enough

Yeah, I've seen the Kotaku article also. Even that comes from Emails and documents hacked from Bethesda.

Still $900 just to pull off a prank like this is kind of a commitment. Millions saw it. It was only a couple hours early though right?
