Simple question from a simple man!

Hey guys,

No trolling intended here, just an honest question. Is it good time to start playing this game or I'm 1 year too late? Basically I just found out about this game while surfing on the web and I tried it a little and kinda love the fact that the concept is really outside of any MMObox! Playing alone is not a good options so I will try to find friends out there or try to get my usual group of players budy to sign in. Now, is there a future for this game? I read that Paradox is ditching it?

Any answer is a good answer I guess!

Cheers!

I just started playing a couple months ago or so, and how I describe it to friends is "it's not so much fun, but extremely interesting" :P So I suppose it depends on what you want out of it, I'm looking for a compelling and intriguing gaming experience, so it fits the bill nicely. If you want it to be something that's perpetually immersive and engaging, it may or may not be that depending on the player. Give it a play though, most people in the game will be very welcoming to you as a new player. If you're on Jamestown let me know and I'll try to give you some starting tips and equipment.

Salem is the best game out there (at the moment)

It might have some imbalances, strange mechanics,... but they will get fixed over time, see it as a beta (which imo Salem still is)

Bring as much friends as you can and you will start stronger !

Don't forget this is a permadeath hardcore game, and don't let the trolls & ragequitters fool you !

Oh and about paradox, they've ditched it entirely as of a few months ago... But it's still being actively developed by the original developers (AKA Seatribe), who also created Haven & Hearth. They're a sharp pair of game devs who seem to really pay attention to and care about refining game mechanics, but they are only two people, so sometimes development can be slow. You can surf around the forums for messages from Jorb and Loftar to see what kinds of things are relevant to them which is an indication of changes to come.

It's a great time to start this game. :D

There's going to be an overhaul of gluttony soon from the 2 person Dev team. This a hobby for them really so don't expect any massive changes or rapid development. They've spent years on their other game and it's still in Alpha.

Salem is technically in open Beta. Yes, Paradox dropped the Dev team from a steady paycheck but the game company is still hosting the servers. That was back in June and hasn't affected much but the update amounts.

The established players are big, really big, but hopefully with the new gluttony they'll get clipped a bit and there's not going to be a wipe because most of the game population would quit if they did. It's possible to catch the top players but it's just somewhat harder after they changed the hummus purity. The tiered food and easier skilling have fixed some of that but be prepared to put incredible amounts of time into the game to catch them.

Right now Roanoke is by far the most populated server and most dynamic politically. Plymouth is a dead server, and Jamestown is boring except within 1/2 an hour of either Darwoth's or the Pirate's bases. If you have any questions feel free to PM me or kin me on Roanoke using my homestead secret = 11% Water Source

Good Luck and Welcome to Salem. :D

Note the Claeyt is heavily biased towards Roanoke and forgot to mention that the Candy Gang runs it, at least to a large degree. Jamestown is the most politically open but yes, there are less people playing on it. Everyone except The MM Tribe will tell you not to play on Plymouth, or to make certain it's what you want.
