Current version grind (version 2)

My very old thread still seems completely relevant to the current salem. I made a new character with some friends new to this, we basically like salem's character development system. but the sheer amount of time needed to forage and study, in order to progress and get to the more fun activities like building and industries, drags the game down.

If the game was rebalanced so you didn't need to uses so dam many inspirationals to buy your mid game skills, the game would play so that you could pretty much have fun from the get go, build stuff try new industries, rather than having to spend many many hours waltzing through the forest. its currently too slow pace, especially for a permadeath game.

So once again i'm curious, what is your opinion on the current rate of character progression? aka grind.

PS on purity: as far as I know purity is not really raise-able except on mines (although i'm guessing people have figured a work around for farm purity). Feel free to educate me on this. Are they even still planning to re-introduce purity in a big way? seems to have taken a back seat on development.

TBH I think that there are just too many spawns of inspirationals... I go for a walk and I'm stuffing them in my head like theres no tomorrow just to have room in my backpack. I dont think there is a huge grind to this, apart from maybe phlegm food when you are new and building.
It is a huge learning curve (admittedly easier if youre a Havenite) but hell, one long day and you know the mechanics, the trick is crafting the curios, and knowing which ones you need (keep wiki proficiencies on tab) Silver... there are snake skins all over the place, 30 of these and you have a claim stone... I dont see that there is any real grind for noobs. Go for a walk, enjoy the scenery, just pick up stuff as you go about your other business.

This game has massive grind, although once you figure out how to catch tumbleweeds it becomes easier

exactly i leave my home and go wandering in the forest for 30 minutes with wander on and have a bag full of everything from singing logs and new world gourds to devil's wort. Cook for more then a few minutes and have gingerbread men, perfect ash, and lard. Cut some logs and make some boards and have Cross splinters, and coffin boards coming out of my ears.

if you wanna cut the early grind there's still the mid grind and the late grind... it's just the way this game goes... the good side is it's very rewarding to look all the stuff you made... your settlement seems to never stop evolving and I think it's a good thing... it's more about the journey than the arrival...

The game should take a long time. The fact is there isn't that much to do when you have a huge base with everything in it, ridiculous humours and all skills. It's the journey getting to that point that I'm enjoying.
The sweat and blood shed by its people had established a strong foundation upon which the most powerful entity in the world would be built.
