With all kinds of fighting and quarreling going on these days, I will try to calm peoples minds by focusing on something more peaceful. Inspired by this games predecessor HnH I made a "farm" last year. Its not a big farm, but a 4 m2 area on my lawn. In 2012 I tilled the field, worked it with my own muscles, fertilized with cow dung and planted various vegetables. It was a great success, so I will try again this year. In hopes of inspiring others of making a "farm" on the lawn or elsewhere, I therefore make this thread.

Are you going to grow pumpkins and then eat a cupboard full of pies in one sitting?

I actually grew pumpkins last year to see if they would even grow at about 65 degrees northern latitude. They grew pretty well, and I got 4 pumpkins, the biggest perhaps 3 kgs. I didnt use them to make anything though. Should have made a pie I guess. Ate some raw, but that was not a particularily great culinary experience.

Ewwww, ate some raw? I've never tried pumpkin flesh, but I imagine the flavor would be hot and dry.

You should have made a pumpkin masks and then studied them carefully.

I think I will drop pumpkins this year. The pumpkins took over and outgrew the other crops. Especially the strawberries were suffering. You can see the remnants of the strawberries to the left in the field. The pile on the right is the leftovers of the pea plants which I hope decay sufficiently to be mixed up in the dirt. I will give the field a month, and then I will begin to work it a bit. Maybe plant some clover to pull some nitrogen into the soil. The compost wont be ready this year. (The compost in this game is highly unrealistic..)

Anyone who tried to grow pumpkins IRL could have told you that they seriously f*k up any vegetable garden unless VERY well isolated.
Carrots are always a nice option, and grow very fast, while also growing pretty much anywhere

Yeah, that's common knowledge, I was just pointing out that flesh is palatable when roasted.

Anyway, I wouldn't bother with clovers, you can't eat them so they just take up space. Try green peas instead, they bind nitrogen to soil too.
