Reasons not to use the shop

Ok, I would like some help options or suggestions please.

As a new player, I spoke to the settlement npc after tutorial and opted to settle alongside a friend. Entering his secret said no such settlement secret existed, and i was transported to a different location.
I travelled back to boston, met friend. joined party. and walked 3 hours to his location.

So after a few hours of play i decided that it would be GREAT to have a real settlement, So, sadly, i purchased the Pioneer's Pack. well no notification of purchase sucess, no notification of anything! After checking around i worked out that you had to pick it up from postmaster.. back in boston. not being at MY home.. i had to empty my inventory to travel back.

So i travelled back, picked up my purchase, read the skills, placed settlement deed in backpack, and started the nice long trudge back to my friends location.

5 minutes out of town, i stopped alongside some water and checked it was clear. went for a bio break. come back to being knocked out. apparently there was a snake that found me. . ok start back in town.. bye bye some skills. .. no settlement token.. oh and health doesnt refill when you respawn!

so I ran back, had to lead the snake off, died again, at least snake wasnt by my stuff when i went back AGAIN and picked up the settlement paper, dusted it off, stuffed it in backpack and trudged on.

an hour later, and following a party arrow, i found another snake, who chased me for 24 minutes. hit me 3 times, so i was low on health (1.5 blood) and out of black bile.. cant stop to forage so relying on food i had.
managed to lose the snake, poison cleared, so i started looking for stuff to forage, when .. BOOM.. over i go.

so now, in some indeterminate location, is a piece of paper worth the greater part of $15 US dollars.
Is this by design? is there no way of getting to a friends location (even via silver) and no way of protecting purchased items.. I would also love to know why i was knocked out the last time!

PS i did print screen but apparently the client doenst save screenshots that way, and i had copied something else so wasnt in clipboard anymore. . *sigh*.

If you had built a lean to at your friend's place and set it as your homestead you could've teleported between there and Boston.

First, you may not have been able to use the homestead secret travel option if your friend owns a leanto and not and actual personal claim. If that is the case then it was intentional.

Second, as far as the cash shop goes, it does suck to lose your stuff you paid for. The devs know of the issue and will work on something that warns that this might happen I'm sure. Advice would be to never walk out of Boston with anything bought. Don't buy it or don't pick it up from Post Office until you have a homestead to teleport to. (Note to devs: that would be a good idea to add in a warning when purchasing from cash shop)

poison doesn't go away unless you drink the antidote(250s at stall, or craft it with a rare item), so I guess the poison knocked you out... from what I know the game is pretty young and the devs are a small team, so it will take a while to get things more intuitive and easy the learning curve, which is pretty steep and not without some traps... on the other hand it's a very rich game with lots of things to do and discover... but yeah, loss is a big part of the game, and I have yet to suffer something like that, but I'm curious as how far I can go without giving up

both of us only had leanto. I had no option to build anything else (had checked prior to purchasing this pack).

how are you supposed to NOT leave boston when you have to leave boston to use the settlement paper. I could travel to MY leanto, but it was nowhere near where i had to be.

and since no "help" will be forthcoming. my opinion of the entire game has taken a massive slide. apart from the whole "paying for stuff while its in beta testing is unethical"

Just because it's not a discussion fitting within the help! forum doesn't mean you won't get answers to your questions. Specifically this is mostly a gameplay experience account.

Furthermore, I don't want a thread titled "Why not to support this game" in the newbie help forum. Now to answer your questions as best I'm able: (give me a bit to write them)

In a way yes. This game is more or less designed to punish you if you don't take precautions. Wandering around with something valuable in your inventory when you can be koed and have it pop out isn't a great idea. Did they warn you this could happen? Big discussion of that and action will be taken to provide better clarity.

I've never bought an item pack, but if you picked it up from the mailman, you should have waited until you'd found a location to live and set up a leanto. Yet again, this isn't warned about and no it's not your fault. But it has happened to a number of people by now, so perhaps some research coulda helped you along the way.

Not immediately. Once they set up a claim you can teleport to them if you didn't use your free port and don't have Rights of the englishman. A party system for settling is being developed for group ports, and the party arrow system is your other (excruciatingly painful) option. This system is designed to prevent some massive abuse problems we've had in the past, even though it is inconvenient.

Full loot, open world pvp, permadeath game. The quick and dirty answer is no. Especially not for a beginner. With a proper defended town maybe? That's changing as the defense system is being ironed out.

Without antidote snake venom is always a knock out. You can't survive it.

Caveat Emptor: Buyers beware

This is an open world, full pvp, full loot game. As a beginner, you will NOT be able to protect things you buy with real money. If you are knocked out you drop everything in your possession and if you're lacking a homestead you go straight back to Boston. I heavily suggest at least getting a leanto before buying or delivering any items from the shop. The only truly safe spot for things in this game is in the hands of the banker or postman.

It's not going to stop things like this happening though. The people who have these issues are always the types to dive into a game without doing research first, and in Salem as in Haven that can lead to horrible results if misfortune strikes.

Where did you find this game? Permadeath is always mentioned in the advertisements from what I've seen.

Try wurm if you don't mind slow pacing. Same genre as this.

yes i play wurm, it just went gold so i will spend more time there again.

your game concept is sorta cool, however, being a very incomplete beta and losing RL paid items in such a manner, with a "yeh that not working correctly yet or still to be implimented" response isnt really inspiring sadly. even something like a paid teleport to kin (30 silver) that the other party has to accept before the teleport happens would be a better, or at least make purchased certificates etc no-drop, like your weapons etc.
