First off, coups in Turkey are really, really common. Erdogan has already prosecuted a few generals for an attempted one a couple of years ago. There is generally a direct conflict between an especially Islamic Turkish government and the avowed Secular Turkish Military loyal to the beliefs of Ataturk. This is similar to the coup by the military in Egypt and a lot of people saw this coming.
It's important to remember that Erdogan's democratic support was from the religious, rural and less affluent population in places like Ankara and that he was opposed by the more affluent, European and international population of Istanbul and the Western coast and the Kurdish and Armenian areas of the country. Many of the Non-Religious military officers of the Turkish military come from long standing military families in Istanbul who trace their backgrounds to support of Ataturk.
My predictions are that the military is going to report that the Erdogan government and the special police were buying cheap oil from ISIS and selling them weapons like it was reported by several Turkish news sources last year.
I'll bet that he's jailed Heff for 5000. They're going to find something criminal that he did easily.

The nukes are controlled the U.S. Air Force. There's no way the Turks have anyone within a mile of them.
As for who this is, it's comparable to the Egyptian coup by the military against the conservative semi-Islamic government of the Muslim Brotherhood. Erdogan isn't that bad but he's been fighting to make turkey more Islamic for years now.
HERE'S WHY THIS IS HAPPENING-Erdogan and the secret police were accused of supporting ISIS by both buying oil from them and selling weapons to them.
-Erdogan has been increasingly trying to recreate a more Islamic state within Turkey.
-Erdogan spent millions and millions on a new 'Presidential Palace' for himself that was seen as completely corrupt.
-Erdogan has been in direct conflict with the more liberal, European population of the most populous city of Istanbul where much of Turkey's economy is.
-Erdogan and his party are trying to gut the Supreme Court after it clipped his war against Turkish reporters. His ongoing attempts to control the news and the internet have led to illegal Police raids against many, many news sources alongside a further conservative bent to State News and firing of liberal reporters there.
