I don't watch the show, but this is the impression I got from the book when I read it.

For the last 6 season or 16 years since the 1st book came out there is a character that is known to be a bastard of the greater lord in the north. The first book gives very subtle clues that he is more than just a bastard. With last nights reveal it came out that he is actually the true born heir to the throne that everyone has been fighting for. I've waited 16 years and countless reading on theory crafting as to who his parents actually are. The relief is real.

I thought that's what it was, I don't know much about GoT but I read a bit about it and found something about that theory. Seems a lot of people were right then.

Or did they make the plot move towards that audience belief?

Was a great season no doubt. 10x better than last season.

This helps explain what went down last night:

I am going to assume Snow will be riding a dragon and that's how he will defeat the ice king/undead

It was confirmed that during the initial meeting for the show the 1st thing that the author asked the show creators was who is jon's mother. Because they answered correctly he knew that he had the right guys to take his story to film.

One thing to remember about the show is that that end path for the characters is all the same but how they get there will be different in the books.

Neat!

Is J gonna marry Daenerys now, since, well, they are both Targaryens?
