UK Leaving the EU?

Let's have some not-US politics for a change. :P

The UK is about to decide if they should remain in the European Union or become independent again. Seems the opinion polls are too close to call even just a few hours before the vote so there's no telling what will happen tomorrow.

Are we meant to discuss our opinions on the matter or are we just counting down to see which fan the **** hits?

It's partly my opinion that one way or another they might get screwed. As it stands the way the voting system in the EU works, no one country seems to get their way aside from the top few that bully the rest with economic agreements and stuff. So with that in mind staying in the EU kind of maintains the UK in a position to get screwed over one way or another.

On the other hand if they leave, that's a lot of trade agreements they'll lose for the time being and need to renegociate, and with little leverage they might not get quite as good a set of agreements in the future.

As a third idea, I personally am a massive cynic in terms of how good modern day governments really are, so I feel as if the economic derpage going on is just gonna happen wether people stay in the EU or leave it, and both the side for and against the "brexit" are equally inadequate in controlling the direction of the economy. At best they can put a damper on it like Obama's administration seems to have done with the US issues, but selling any one choice as a fix-all solution is so silly that it hurts to even think how many people think that either the "Yes" or "No" votes will solve much.

This whole economic crisis here isn't going anywhere if we stick with the euro currency.

I always liked to think that game developers get to see first hand the hardships of regulating a system and balancing it. And they only need to do it with reasonably small servers, not a whole country's economy and everything involved. But to put the economic crisis into perspective, imagine if JC decided to remove all silver, introduce a new currency, Salem Bux, seed a healthy amount of them to make for a healthy economy, but then leave the exact same stall mechanics and money-earning mechanics that are in game now. The new currency would lose value and end up in the exact situation as the old one, and then it would follow the same looping cycle as is the case with real world economy. The currency itself isn't what needs changed, but rather the way all the markets work. The sad reality of it though is that politicians are nowhere near as smart as game devs, and that's why I don't see there being a lot of change for the better in the future.

Also, I find it very silly to hold a referendum for such a delicate issue. Make a bunch of people vote on a highly complex question while they lack the knowledge to make an educated decision on it and then hope it all goes for the better. It's a bit like JC asking people to vote on the best way to implement mechanics only to see it all go horribly and then decide he's better off asking the informed veterans and people with some understanding of the stuff.

Imagine how great Salem would be if JC would redesign raiding based on a universal suffrage referendum.
