I recall being a wee lad when Black and White came out. I would dutifully clip the ads from magazines and pin them up on the fridge as a reminder to my parents that this was something they should buy for me. A good half of one side of the fridge was full before they got the hint. My dad came home with it one day and I was ecstatic but my mom wouldn't let me play it. The sandbox genre was a new thing, as was the idea of a god sim. That was what really sold Black and White, being one of the first of its kind. Unfortunately for young me, this concept happened to be blasphemous. It appeared that the option of not only being god but being capable of being evil if I so chose offended my mother's delicate Catholic sensibilities. It was years later until I finally got to play Black and White 2.
