Fair voting system. UK elections

Is the system broken?

The number of seats given for the % of total votes earned seems curious.

UkIP gained 12.6% of the total votes across the country, yet only gained 1/650 seats within the house of commons, why the SNP have 56/650 seats with only a 4.8% of the votes from the population.

I think the system is wrong in the way it awards power and it ensures the people in power stay in power, for a couple more decades at least.

It's broken. Conservatives got like 37% of the popular vote and yet they have the majority. The same thing happens here. Proportional voting is the only way to go over there and change to the way we make electoral districts are the only way to fix ours. Last election over here Democrats got like 57% of the total vote for congress yet lost both houses.

Green party got a million votes and won only one seat. You realize that with proportional voting that Labor would be in power right?

Can a mod move this to City?

Yea can a mod move this please, really my bad.

Yes i understand they would be in power, but the power would be proportionate to the number of votes they got.

Actually con's got 36.80%, why labour got 30.6%, the result would not have changed too much, it would have caused a hung parlament.

PR-STV master race checking in. It's the only way to go! Well, party list proportional representation is ok too.

Political parties are a retarded concept to begin with and even trying to discuss how to "properly" elect them is just missing the point completely. Discussing how to avoid them would be more worthwhile.

Claeyt confirmed for Illuminatus, just in case there was ever any doubt.

Of course, that's not the point. The point is the whole idea of "ideological parties" and "popular voting".
