If Salem goes to Steam, will Lat charge us for his client?

How would he split the profits with EnderWiggin? :geek:

Would MMoments intentionally keep their client bad so as to get a percent of Lat's client's profits? :ugeek:

Would Darwoth quickly steal and post Loftar's hard work as his own simply to make a few quick bucks before Loftar sued him? :geek: ¦] :geek:

This is Modgate explained in the very simple dynamics of our little game. Imagine what it's like for those of us in the modding community of a game like Skyrim with 40,000 mods and millions of dollars to be made. Thanks Steam.

People blow this whole deal out of proportion.
I actually think that paid mods could possibly become an awesome feature.

I agree, to an extent. If the 'for profit' mods are updated, compatable and become Steam for profit mods AFTER they're first tested/vetted/community approved as free mods and they can be removed as 'for profit' mods by being downvoted by the community after they're made 'for profit' for whatever reason.

Nexus does this constantly (see: Skyrim Monster Mod) to keep stolen work in check even after the mod is huge and popular. Steam doesn't have this or any legally binding agreement for shared work in place.

My hope and utter dream would be that only the best, most updated mods with the best modders would reach the level of profit driven. This could really drive modding to be something amazing in the gaming world.

Unfortunately there are so many ways this can get ***** up by the Gaming Companies or Steam or the Modding Community that it'll probably never work.

My dream is that Modding turns into the 'Skywind' team instead of 'New Swords for a Buck'. Either way, it's a massive, massive new change to the gaming world for the next 20 years.

another retard claeyt post, tugsoft was selling keys for uoassist for 15 bucks an account 20 years ago and made a few million dollars over its span, difference is their program was top notch and had the coveted "uo gold" status (which they stopped giving out) whereas kandarims client is a giant pile of bug laden **** he with all the actual work and functioning features ripped off from ender.

Well then the question is: Will we see Kand and Ender teaming up and forming a company to sell us better, less bug ridden modded clients of Salem for small amounts of money?

(Name suggestion for their company: 'The End of Kand: building a more playable client for the idiots who can't program Java themselves') tm

I am interested to see if paid feature is going to 'bind' mod creators e.g. by being obliged to update if the mod is no longer compatible.
But yeah, I realize that I am probably too hopeful, and the only 100% certain thing at this point is the fact that paid mods are going to cause a lot of drama.

As long as they leave Nexus alone I'm fine with the modders trying to make a buck off of idiot Steam tweens. The hardcore modders will still turn to Nexus for feedback and the community just like they always have. If all of a sudden Bethesda says "No mods except on Steam" then the big guns will come out. They've never done that in 10 years of TES games tho and they always release a workshop so I doubt they'll ever do something that idiotic. Other games will do it and they'll destroy their own chances at having what Bethesda and the TES/Fallout mod communities have.

That just changed in Steam. Steam just released a payed mod function for Bethesda Games and to other certain games which sign up for it with a base 25% profit going to the modder, 25% going to Steam and 50% going to the game unless they choose to give more to the modders. The rate is set by the game company.

Technically MMoments could join the FtP Steam setup and then let Lat's Client or Ender's Client be a payed mod.
