I actually think that paid mods could possibly become an awesome feature.
I agree, to an extent. If the 'for profit' mods are updated, compatable and become Steam for profit mods AFTER they're first tested/vetted/community approved as free mods and they can be removed as 'for profit' mods by being downvoted by the community after they're made 'for profit' for whatever reason.
Nexus does this constantly (see: Skyrim Monster Mod) to keep stolen work in check even after the mod is huge and popular. Steam doesn't have this or any legally binding agreement for shared work in place.
My hope and utter dream would be that only the best, most updated mods with the best modders would reach the level of profit driven. This could really drive modding to be something amazing in the gaming world.
Unfortunately there are so many ways this can get ***** up by the Gaming Companies or Steam or the Modding Community that it'll probably never work.
My dream is that Modding turns into the
'Skywind' team instead of 'New Swords for a Buck'. Either way, it's a massive, massive new change to the gaming world for the next 20 years.
