One simple question. Why can we not indent the first word of a sentence, particularly, a paragraph?!

[(I find it odd that my valediction has no problem indenting itself, using the same 5 space rule. This entire confusion is likely onset by the sixth beer of this pack of Redhook.) Ignore these comments as obviously my valediction is not indented, in quite contrast to what the preview repeatedly showed. Do not ignore the remark towards the beer.]

You should read your writing style guides better. Single-spaced paragraphs with double spacing between paragraphs, without indentations, are the accepted standard for computer printing and editing. Indentation is only required when there is no spacing between paragraphs.
