You should be able to store large amounts of wood, stones, bricks without needing box;s or sheds, or box's inside carts.

Should be able to just start a storage pile 2x2, then fill it up.

What's wrong with storage piles? I get sign storage looks ugly but storage piles a la dwarf fortress should be a good thing. Keep it for materials only like wood blocks, boards, stone, ore, lime, clay, bricks etc.

They're trolling you because you should have asked this in Help. We've already said that there will be large storage buildings as soon as we can get to them. There have just been other priorities lately.

This was a thread to express my emotions about not being able to store items in sign posts.
