Oh, you can make your own world without PvP. Interesting.
I don't think I can afford 25$ on a game in development right now but I will surely keep an eye on it

joshrmt wrote:This is the planned 'rollout' for beta testing:
December 24 - January 7: Temporary beta invites to small groups of random people that have signed-up. Each invite will only have a small lifespan. You may get invited multiple times.
January 7: Beta invites for all Kickstarter contributers (as long as we meet our goal). These are permanent beta invites and will be playable until launch.
January 21: Beta invites for everyone that has signed up to beta test, or has created an account on this forum, first-come first-serve.
February 4: Pre-order begins. All beta accounts are removed except for those that participated in the Kickstarter, or that pre-order the game.

^Always liked the idea of this.
The scripting sounds very interesting approach to sandbox.
So if the player base fails and the game world really does die, do they get their money back?
Actually, a new world will spawn.
Not that it's very likely. The forum organizations show that most players are going to be pro-good.

Yes, monsters will roam free and kill people. They will invade cities and conquer regions. There will be factions of players that also have agendas for world conquest.
However, combat with another player is dangerous. Each side will take a risk in losing their work. Also, there is little to be gained from killing another player aside from political agenda. Therefore, many people will fight for a cause rather than random killing. In other online games, 'PK'ers are often 'super badass' gods roaming the earth, able to kill people with little effort. In Topia Online, the 'power gap' is much more narrow, and the risk/reward for attacking another player is high risk, low reward unless they are a strategic target.

Then I will write a script that actually just does the killing for me. Then I can use all the time I don't have to spend on Topia to play an awesome fun game like Salem.

I still can't understand for the life of me why anyone posts in a thread they're not interested in. It truly boggles me. You don't like the concept, that's neat, so don't bother with it then.
