Who cares how many people play it, it's only 10 at a time in each game session which only last for like an hour. How is botting even applicable to that?

Your analogy is bad.

publishers care, more ppl more money. Hence so many similar moba games popping out to try grab a piece of revenue. you should get into your head, mmorpg isn't charity, devs are out to try to make as much money as possible. Based on the revenue, then they decide how much to invest into the game. More players = more money= more development. You wouldn't care because botting wouldn't give you advantage. You can buy any champ and still get owned if you don't have the skill. You can't just one shot someone like in this game because you botted your way to high stats.

you can't ban bots, people will always find a way round your attempt at restricting them. thus putting a ban only discourages the less serious players from doing it anyway. An unenforceable ban that widens the gap between botters and non-botters (really not big in this game anyway, hay is *****) is totally morally bankrupt, and all those other developers are kidding you if they say that they can enforce it.

the j&l approach is much better.

You can marginalize them by banning accounts from the game. The average user then quits trying to find or figure them out. While this works in a typical MMO, it leaves a small few with a potentially large advantage in a truly competitive environment. Note that I say potentially as it is possible to overcome that with enough effort, though general wisdom says your average player isn't going to work hard enough to do so in the first place, be it a single person or a group.

There are ways of making people not only avoid using bots, but avoid people that are botting themselves, but it takes some pretty draconian policies that, overall, aren't good for the game or community that should build up around an MMO. This is assuming that the developer decides to go through the effort of developing software to detect these things.

yes, well my point is that in that case, this small few will not in fact be marginal in a game like salem, but will dominate the politics. which i dont think anyone wants. luckily because of the game mechanics and development philosophy, this wont happen in salem, and we should be fine.

I just started playing for about a week. Just countering your statement that while LOL might have some ip bots, it wouldn't give advantage like it does in this game.

Yeah, play more and you will realize that botting is not as big of an issue that you are making it out to be. it is likely more of an issue with the IP bots in LoL, than it is in Salem.

ip bots get you more runes and champions.

talking about the botting here just makes you and everyone else crying about it look really stupid

I do know of one game that not only allows bots, but encourages the players to use them because the mechanics can be so freakishly tedious on some tasks. (It's a fun thing to learn how to play the mini-game, but it gets old fast and boring for the amount of repetition you have to do.) Since it's a small game, the devs don't have a lot of time to work on old mechanics as well as new content the players want.
