100% right

They were probably looking for somewhere to raid and noticed a red square and decided to talk to you, when you were cold to them it gave them no reason not to raid to you. Think of it like failing a speech check. If you had engaged in conversation then maybe they would have not raided you, of course they may have raided you anyway.

Thank you for the russian phrases. I will keep them handy just in case. One of the aspects I really like about this game is that I can roam about and explore.

In game/in RL am not a bigot. But for game purposes I am becomeing slightly agoraphobic. Since I am new, and especially after reading the forums, I am fairly convinced that everyone will kill me on sight if I meet them in the wild.

I made an alt just to roam about and when I've stumbled into several either large farms or small villages I avoided them like they had the plague. I like to roam but don't carry anything on my little guy so he can hearth quickly just in case. And my little guy is disposable just in case someone does kill him.

In town my only interactions with others is having people follow me around threatening to kill me (no idea why--I logged on and started walked to pick seaweed/grass), simply following literally right behind me or moving repeatedly in my way so I can't move. i figure their behavior is a function of age (kids) vice aggression but it is annoying.

On the flip side, not seeing anyone for ages and then running into a red marker on the minimap can make you forget the danger and get curious. It happened to me. Thankfully the other person ran away!
Camps have a tendency to draw me in mainly because I want to know how other people build their claims. Curiosity will be the death of my explorer.

Lol, that made me laugh, i'm exactly the same. So far i've been chased four times from just not being able to resist the urge to 'go check it out'. I've gotten away each time, i'm an expert at free running now! But, you would think i'd stop doing it after so many close calls - but no, lol, i'm pretty much expecting curiosity to be the death of my char too.

On the subject; I always talk and am friendly to the people I meet, on the whole it's reciprocated regardless of nationality, when it's not and they look better equiped than me, I run.

I met a really nice Russian guy in town who helped me out with the trading aspect even though I was going to be competition. And no, he's not going to raid me at a later date, lol, he's genuinely most supportive and helpful and has offered me trade deals when I am able to produce the amount he requires.

Rudeness and/or bigotry is a symptom of personality/upbringing - not nationality.

Edit: I just remembered an incident in town i'd like to relate.

Three Russians were trading at one of the bins, a really 'ditzy' newb appeared, all excited, lol, saying hi to everyone, running around, trying to bump into the bins being used, 'humping' people, etc, you could tell it was annoying to people although I have to admit I was creased up laughing at her antics. (you could tell she was female other than her clothing.) I also suspect she was quite young due to the things she was saying and her actions. :)

Everyone ignored her, even me, as I figured it would be a bad move under the circumstances. Tbh, she didn't appear to be controlable anyway, lol. After a few minutes the Russians began trading and talking to one another, immediately she starts shouting "ooo its the russians, they're coming to kill us all!" and "oi, russians, are you going to kill me?"

At first they ignored her and judging by the smilies were laughing to each other about it. (Meanwhile, I was totally cringing, lol). But when one of them moved and she got right up in his face still carrying on, he snapped. He basically told her she was a racist c*** - ofc that was ott and the poor girl was most upset and tried to explain she was only joking, but on the other hand, if this is what they are faced with everytime they open their mouths you can't really blame them for feeling hostile.

Really nice to read all this thread, a lot of pleasant comments here. Really made me soft and happy for a bit :)

To the topic starter I can just say that it looks like this person liked your place and was going to raid you, and just was giving you the last chance to survive by talking to him. And since you failed to find anything in common you received a result.

I personally prefer to live without neighbors, but on Plymouth had several close nonRussian neighbors, and everything was ok, was selling goods for better prices, giving some advices. It does not really matter what country you’re from its a matter of possibility to cooperate with each other. For example, we had a citizen in our town whom after a week or 2 I had to through out of town and I think after a month some of us even raided his abandoned base, and being Russian didn't saved him, but being a jerk ruined him.

So, as everybody said here, doesn't matter with whom - try to talk, communicate and work something out together or there are good chances to be wiped out if the other side decides that there is no point of having you near. And yes, 20 minimaps is CLOSE from my point of view.

P.S. Texas is a really good answer, most of people respect it, me also. If I’ll get a Visa I am applying now, I’ll visit Dallas in a month and check it out 8-)

This is probably a bit off topic but I would like to know opinions.

What is a decent area traffic around your claim and when is it time to relocate?
So far I've seen 1 person/week (5 total) and I am starting to worry that I will suffer the consequences if I stick around longer. I know for a fact that one is a serial killer.

One a week is alot. I assume you dont play 24/7. Most likely more people have passed your claim. I have seen two in 2 months.
