I don't see how this actually helps new players. Every game I have played have had some sort of introduction to the game to give a kick-start. Even the previous "Leave Boston, find/make inspirational, learn 'Survival Skills', return to Boston & speak to guide" was better than what is available now.

You still have the detailed "help"-popups which are unlocked accountwide and are easily accessible. I refer to the ones like the one that pops up when you first learn Childish Things.

Nobody read them when they were here, they just asked on the help forum. Or just raged.

This is actually not supposed to happen. Report it when you see it, I do. And I agree, people just saying things like 'look it up on the wiki' is putting off new players.

Ok I wasn't aware that this was reportable. I'll do that next time.

Just to note, saying this is fine if you present the relative wiki link. Expect that someone is going to come back saying "but I didn't see what I was looking for on the wiki"

Yes, please report it. It's one of my pet peeves and, at the minimum, if not trolling, not being respectful of another's need for help in a complex game. I've had words with more than a few people over the issue.

I'm not talking about pop-up windows with text, because I'm not keen on reading walls of text either when I start a game. I'm talking about being guided the first few steps, like we were - but with some improvements. Pop-ups should only be a complement to an actual tutorial. Having nothing makes no sense other than trying to apply the "realism" of a real person arriving in a new place to populate it. But even then I bet the Brits had the basic skills to make it in the New World - something new characters don't.

An actual in-game tutorial is very important for hooking people that just want to try the game out. No one should have to go on to the forum before they can even play.

No point in doing one when game mechanics are subject to be rewritten the next day. This isn't some late beta such as you'd find with Warcraft or other AAA title. This is an early to mid beta where the game is fully functioning, but there's a lot of mechanics and content being worked out. If you've ever played Dwarf Fortress or any other indie titles that are released for publicly consumption well before they're finalized, you should be familiar with this form of beta testing.
