Then you could say something to the effect of "Do you speak Russian?"

Anyway, it seems there are a few people at least who think this is totally normal, friendly behavior. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Stranger: Do you speak Russian?
You: No.
Stranger: ...

Stranger: Where are you from?
Me: US, you?
Stranger: Russia
Me: Oh, kool. What's it like there?/Must be cold as hell this time of year./Do you play with a group?/Do you need anything in your travels?/etc. etc. etc.

rofl the guy i ran into who if is part of that guys group spoke perfect english for someone trying to stab me in the back LOL.

while there are always two sides the fence, i dont really see it as rude not wanting to tell a person where i live, given the fact that english the prostitute of the language world 90% of the worlds population can and does understand it for limited conversation.

if a person is going to wipe a person would because they do not wish to say where they are from, seems rather funny cause i could wipe a person out for being male or female character in salem or because they have red or black hair or maybe that messy hair coloured grey.

while i dont mind telling people where i live country wise. i also dont see a reason to kill a person for it which seems to be the common theme now O-o

~oh you are/arent :_____ nationality .... DEAD~
~oh you live in :_____ country .... DEAD~
~oh you are an alien from the planet Zephod.....thumbs up DEAD~
thats basicly what i take away from this thread.. you could claim to be a nigerian prince and they would kill you just because they want to. lolol no need for excuses :P (or maybe because you didnt actually transmit the millions you promised..)

I remember when I played H&H and so many people were terrified of the Russians. It got to the point where people would pretend they were Russian just to freak out their neighbors. Personally, I never had a single bad encounter with any Russians in either of the two worlds I played in. Certain Canadians on the other hand...

What I take away from this topic is that a murderer can come up with any reason they want to kill and raid, and there's no way to stop them (perhaps killing them first). Someone passed by my camp recently and greeted me. I was paralyzed with the mouse hovering the teleport button not being able to return the friendly gesture. Am I now supposed to expect an assault? It's silly given the circumstances but not impossible.
I thank the imaginary Salem gods for every day my camp remains intact.

It'd kinda make it easy to guess who I am, and I got a feeling that half the forum wants me dead :?

The "not rude" response:

"I don't like to say where I'm from in games. I realize nobody can actually track me down just for naming a state, province, or country, but I'm just paranoid that way." (or can they?)

And yes, I've used that line and similar ones to it many times. Maybe I'm a bit embarrassed over where I'm from. Maybe I think that where we're physically from shouldn't make a bit of difference.
