I'm pretty sure that if there was an alternative to the SI system, america'd be using it.

I'm American. I don't understand what that IV in there is. Does the date need a transfusion or drugs?

This is smart and makes since with no room for confusion. After having a job where we had to manually write date formatting based on where we shipped to (some people just don't know how to use a standard), I'd gladly switch to something sensible that can never be confused no matter what order you write it in. Too bad "IV" isn't a number to a computer (unless we tell it is, of course)!
I am a moderator. I moderate stuff. When I do, I write in this color.

"9 Apr 2015" is just as hard to confuse, and the names of the months are at least somewhat international. :)

Arguably, however, the ISO format 2015-04-09 is also just as hard to confuse. There's no other date format that begins with the year. This is similar to the reason I always use "UTC" rather than "GMT" when writing times-of-day in an international context, as "GMT" can be confused for "the local time at Greenwich". (There is of course also the fact that most if not all clocks are adjusted to UTC rather than GMT, but the actual difference between them is somewhat more academic.)
