And leave them online or offline for a duration of 8 hours or so. after which they will be ported to their claim or simly brought offline. you cannot un stall your char or anything for those 8 hours. you can set buy and sell orders and after 8 hours you can access these things again. once at home you can open the stall item and take out your buys and silver and restock the stall for another round of being a market salesman.
this way all you need is a large open space (even anyhere in the world tbh) and you are able to place a stall there for 8 hours.

You would set some limits to how many buy/sell items one could hold.
Concern would be players spamming like 50 merchant alts into town. I'm not sure how to account for that.
You could charge some nominal fee + tax for leaving your merchant in town for 8 hours.
Potjeh's idea is best for long term. Allow towns to have their own stalls.
