Sheep so I can have wool to spin me some gold and mutton for my family, poultry such as chickens and ducks for eggs, fried chicken as well. I think animal husbandry should be split into branches which whenever player choose one as his profession, the others disappear. And bring sausage making to Salem please.
We make sword stone for keeper and pull they do it and excalibur come out. have no make stone to for sword we make sword box for sword to put sword in for sword. -Moniker (Anarchy online)

Why this? It's not hard to learn how to take care of more than one kind of animal. The only two I can see being mutually exclusive would be sheep and cows, because of the historical aspect.

On a more serious note, if we get sheep I would like to have to take them outside the compound to graze instead of just filling a trough with pure grains, and purity should be modified through selective breeding rather than feedstock. There should also be wolves which would be attracted to the flock. You could equip a crook to lead the sheep and a sling to chase off hungry wolves. Not entirely historically accurate perhaps, however doubtless there could have been immigrants who retained their traditional methods of raising sheep.

Wolves could be caught and tamed to hunt rabbits, crickets and snakes. They could also possibly hamstring deer and beavers to prevent charge and the dance of death although at great risk to themselves. They should have upkeep requirements to balance this, such as constantly demanding to play fetch and they should become too tired to hunt after a short period, requiring an extensive rest, which could be mitigated by letting them sleep in a kennel. Any enemy player wearing even rudimentary protective clothing would be entirely protected from the attacks of a tame wolf. The wolf should instead have a tendency to walk up to nearby players, roll over on its belly and beg for pats. They should really be more of a demanding no lifers status symbol with a few minor advantages than something every player simply has to have to be competitive. I can dream.

I'd also like to see chickens to go alongside turkeys, because you can never have too much delicious poultry.

Edit: Oh yes, and please differentiate between mutton and lamb. The world has forgotten mutton and it has it's own special uses.

As far as mobs are concerned, I'd like to see all the iconic North American animals, regardless of geographic accuracy of having them in New England. Opossums, skunks, armadillos, buffalo, cougars, coyotes, snapping turtles, alligators etc.

I would like to see the wilderness expanded greatly yes. I feel like if there was more of a "man vs nature" feel it would balance out the currently player vs player only situation that we're currently in. If surviving on its own is difficult it will add more to endgame other than just pvp.
