Well... that's what a game called tibia does or used to do it was tons of fun
I played tibia for a long time.
Downtime in this game is aggravating in the extreme if you have timers and stuff going on. I wrote down in excell sheets when stuff should be done, but apparently during downtime time does not pass server side (this makes sense). So everything gets pushed back for as long as the server is down. This is extremely hard to quantify, so keeping track is next to useless.
There's a custom client that has timers set for you, if you want to use them.
