It would be interesting if a week or 3 days before the actual patch is released, the test server is open and everyone starts with a high humoured charactacter for pvp pvp-e rampage
Well... that's what a game called tibia does or used to do it was tons of fun

I played tibia for a long time.

Downtime in this game is aggravating in the extreme if you have timers and stuff going on. I wrote down in excell sheets when stuff should be done, but apparently during downtime time does not pass server side (this makes sense). So everything gets pushed back for as long as the server is down. This is extremely hard to quantify, so keeping track is next to useless.

There's a custom client that has timers set for you, if you want to use them.

do those timers roll while you are offline?
he is probably talking about board piles that last for 5 days, pots that last for 2, a nice Asian wife that is SUPER RARE but lasts a lifetime <3 ... and so on.

Of course they do keep going while you're offline. That would be so lame otherwise :D
Trust your enemies more than your friends. Your enemies will never betray you.

Like this guy said, keeping time while the server is down is exactly the problem. I might try and make a program that tests when the server is online and only counts while it is. However, I am lazy so who knows.

The server actually sends the current in-game time to the client, so if you just use that information, you can easily log in again after a crash and see how much time was lost.

this sounds like a nice thing :) definitely need to investigate.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.
