Wow, why abandon Kickstarter? Are they trying to avoid the commission? If I had pledged to them, I would not be re-pledging after this display of moral bankruptcy.

No, it's not that. They have no chances of having kickstarter succesful, so they transition to something where they can get some money at least

From the Kickstarter FAQ:

What are the fees?

If a project is successfully funded, Kickstarter applies a 5% fee to the funds collected.

In the US, pledges will be processed by Amazon Payments, while in the UK, pledges will be processed securely through a third-party payments processor. These payment processing fees work out to roughly 3-5%. View the US and UK fee breakdowns.

Paraphrasing the FAQ: If the project doesn't get the funding, no one gets charged, and the developers aren't stuck trying to make a 5k project for 1k.

Sounds like they're going to try to make their project on less than they need to make it? That won't work, they'll fail.
