It's not that they don't want to, that's for sure.

Another question, are 45°corner/starter post a viable option? Does NSEW wall building works for them? And can the wall segments thus be placed diagonally?

Yes it's a shame, it would have been nice for a meaningful discussion.

To add to the sensible discussion:

A hermit with 200 biles or so who migrated to the darkness with a few racks of braz-walls could probably make themselves relatively difficult to raid, such that apart from proving a point, they would be unlikely to be targetted.

However, is darkness migration meant to be the end-game? Alot of people would probably like to use the "normal" part of the map to establish a place, or is this effectively a noob zone?

Actually, my intentions were pretty honest with this thread, I was throwing a question out there for the hermits to respond too, instead it turned into a mud slinging contest from butthurt fanboy rivals insulting and shutting it down so I began trolling back, and it seems today at work some actual legit points and topics were made in the last couple pages. :)

Regardless, I'm so confused as to why people are so full of pride, in a freaking videogame. The insurance is cheap, less then an hour of grinding cricket teams, and you are pretty much 100% safe and retaliation is promised on anyone who threatens/griefs/raids you. You can play the game any way you want, larp to your hearts content, and you only have to dedicate one hour ONCE A MONTH or so paying the fee. Is it really that bad?
MM tribe has basically pulled a 180 in the way we are playing the game. We don't want the game to die because the chief is right, We are Kobe Bryant playing on the kids playground, sharks in the swimming pool with guppies, and Cheetahs in a herd of gazelle. It's not our fault people are still making BASIC terrible decisions with the current game, and we aren't going to hold your hand and give away all our seekritz. So we have given you a different option, if you are too dumb to take advantage of it, well, then your just bad, and this prolly isn't the game for you if you just want to build 3 walls in non darkness drain because it "looks prettier" etc etc, and then proceed to spam townhouses. Go play farmville. This isn't the game for you, but it can be, if you dedicate ONE FREAKING HOUR A MONTH, paying for your safety.

It just makes zero sense to refuse trying to be a hipster and look cool, but hey, whatever floats your boat. NVR4GET MM domination of you.

Your thinking the game is complete, obviously with better newer walls and I'm sure brazier dmg will be tweaked a bit, yes, non dark will be fine, someday.
In the games current state? depends on your activity. If your group is active enough, nothing wrong with non darkness. Activity is everything. Or you know, actually build some walls and braziers correctly where a raider can't destroy you, but only run in and grab some chests you left laying around etc etc. If your smart, your infrastructure will remain. Unless you piss of the chief of course.

Only log in now and then? nothing wrong with going to .1 bile drain darkness and building, where you basically eliminate 99.9% of any threat against you.

Orrrrr

Don't be stupid, pay the insurance, just think of it as a different way of making you safe. This isn't rocket science, everything to gain, nothing to lose. Be smart. Enjoy this game? Use your head, The devs gave us no police force/guards of any kind, we are becoming one for you, show us a little faith and pay, then salem is your game, the way YOU want to play it. (minus one hour a MONTH if you have zero silver and need to farm up the fee)

Be smart. How is this so difficult for people?

Also, say the devs don't allow people to xfer from pylmouth to the newer servers, Does anyone HONESTLY think if MM rerolled on Roanoke/Jamestown ( we may already have :D ) we wouldn't be in the exact same position in a month or two? Guess what ,we would, Kobe Bryant in a playground remember?

Salem needs to look at how EVE Online does things. Casual zone (High sec), PvPer zone (Low sec), Hardcore PvPer zone (Nullsec). Casuals are the lifeblood of any game. If you don't have a large casual userbase, the game will never go beyond a few dozen people online at a time.

I wouldn't mind this, in fact we almost have that with the current, normal, soft-darkness, hard darkness model. Except it's ironically inverted with the noobs being the easiest targets. Can't see Jorbtar going for it though.

So, to put this in the TL;DR version - Go play Farmville or pay chief so you can play farmville here.

Problem? Yes. I never signed up here to play frakkin farmville. Even if I did, there are no cows and piggies, so it'd be a ***** boring version of one (thus being not much different from the original).

Why would I want to just pay a small fee to feel safe? And in that case, would that insurance also cover bears and march hares (for newbies dont feel safe near either of 'em). And why does chief want all the worms there are? Does he know of some future update we're not aware of, where billions of worms will be crucial part of some new doomsday machine? Sounds like a plausible conspiracy theory to me.

Either way, Chief's protection fee doesn't sound to me like something I'd need. I don't leave scents, I don't settle in one place for longer then a week or two, and since I don't pay anything to the original owners of those abandoned bases for squatting, I see no reason to pay the chief. Until he expands his claim over entire map, I will not consider it his property. Which he might just try to do with all that money he'll get from those paying.
