Second person picks dunce if 3-4 are both wearing admirals - or he picks admirals if one of 3-4 is wearing dunce.

Confirmed first actually correct answer. Previous answers seem suspiciously copy-pasted from the simpler version of the riddle as they only talk about three hats/people.

Feone wrote:The second guy could be lucky and see the dunce cap on guy #1, after not hearing #4 he could shout the answer.

Hmm, didn't even think of this :) Nice solution there.

Feone wrote:Then again, they are criminals, who are not often known for their logical reasoning and intellect. So they may just shout a random answer and hope for the best.

This is what they should do. The whole game is rigged, in the end the king still decides through the set-up which of them will walk.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

No, I'm saying you and the person who came up with it aren't very smart.

Just ignore Badger. He does nothing but troll every thread he can.

It's typically women that dismiss any criticism no matter how apt it as "trolling". It's the online equivalent of closing your eyes and covering your ears.

King never said anything about a wrong answer meaning death, or about people only getting one guess. The second guy simply said "Dunce hat, admiral's hat", game over :D Other three were just too scurred and ignorant to take a shot.

Edit : And yes I know it was answered, but what the heck xD

No offence but so far youre most intelligent post ive read is the one about donkeys. That says more about you than about the riddle provider that made the awesome client. Perhaps you should have a good look in the mirror before spouting nonsense.
