The problem in the situation with Tamir seems ignorance and misinformation. The phone operator was ignorant and misinformed the officers saying only "young black male with a gun", nothing about him being a juvenile and the gun possibly being fake. Also, the "shoot on site of a firearm" doesn't work here, cause the Tyrone only pulls his pants up and never showed them a gun.
It's also funny that policeman presumed the boy being 20 years old.

To be a cop in germany you need education that would be equal to U.S. college. We've got too few because the requirements are too high.

However, that shooting is horrific and truly sad. One does wonder sometimes the intellgence of the police officers in the US.

It's not the intelligence, but the training. (Other than the fact that data says US is one of the dumbest of the industrialized nations, and cops generally aren't the top IQs in any country.) When you train police to shoot on site of a firearm, you can't expect police to react any differently whether it's a toy guy (that can't be distinguished from a real gun at a moments notice) or the real thing.

There's so many things wrong in those couple of sentences... Beats me on how to change it, though, and I don't see banning guns working without going into a full blown civil war. Besides, how well does "no firearms" work in countries where they are illegal to posses? It doesn't prevent them, much like drug laws don't prevent people buying and selling them. I believe that the proliferation of weapons to be a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

Also to note: right to bear arms IS an amendment, not a core piece of the Constitution. We've repealed amendments before when they didn't work.

Not sure if you are trying to say cops are stupid? I don't know about wherever you live, but in my state most depts require college (Bachelors degree) to apply. So IF you are saying cops are stupid, it has clearly made YOU look like a moron. You can talk all the fancy crap and numbers you want, but in the end when you need help you WILL call for a law enforcement officer to help you out. Freaking hypocrite.

While you don't have to have a college degree in the US, it's encouraged if you want to advance in rank any. More than a few people stick to getting just an associates degree at most, which is required in many areas. (Some areas have "equivalent" training the cadets go through.)

I didn't know Stephen Hawkings and Albert Einsteins became cops on a regular basis... Yes, there are highly intelligent individuals in law enforcement just like in all areas of life, but the average IQ of a cop isn't much higher than anyone else, if it is higher than the national average. Also, you don't need a genius IQ to graduate college. You just need dedication and to find a field you can understand. (And possibly a school with easy grad requirements... not everyone can graduate from a Princeton or Oxford, even if they'd let anyone in.)

Who's turning words around here? From what I read, you're the one that perceived it as me saying they were less than "smart", at least according to what I read from your previous post. If you meant something different, then by all means, enlighten us. I will admit I picked a poor phrase, but I've known a lot of cops, and they come in all shapes and sizes just like the rest of us.

I understand, as a cop, you have to deal with asshats trying to manipulate words and stuff all day, and then you have to go into a courtroom and sit as the lawyers try to do the same thing. I believe psychology calls it "projection" when you see it where there is no intent to do such.

I don't think it's a skin color issue at it's core. It's bigger than that. People in general don't feel so very well so they don't make very rational decisions. I believe myself that you can't punish anyone into wellness. If you try to treat negativity with more negativity then you will just end up getting more negativity.
