Given the topic matter of the survey, I think OP should post a picture of a cookie or maybe a puppy in the OP.

I find it mildly concerning that there seems to be a link between people seeking counselling and their being prescribed medication. I guess pills are the easy way out, but I'm not convinced it's the best solution for everyone.

Keep in mind that people with nothing wrong with them tend to not end up in counseling. And alot of professionals will prescribe antianxiety meds early on to make counseling more effective depending on the circumstances. And addicts tend to spike the numbers too since virtualy all of them get some degree of methadone early on.

now the 6% "other" gender... That I can't explain

in most cases I would agree with you, but there's this stigma that stops people from seeking counseling until its serious. Most people don't make an appointment when they feel like they could use it. Most wait until its bad enough to require meds.

I agree there's a stigma. Seems unfortunate as we all spend too much time sitting around thinking instead of struggling to stay alive.

Lots of perfectly fine people find themselves in counselling. Some jobs even require it and pay for a certain amount of mandatory sessions per year. People in jobs with high rates of burnout often benefit from visiting counselors, even if they have no real problems to begin with.

The sad thing is I think he is being serious. Those that seek out and use Counseling are certainly a notch above those who just cut themselves or do whatever else the voices tell them to. But if you can't function without a 3rd party listening to your hopes, dreams, problems, what you had for breakfast you are certainly not "perfectly fine".

Along the same line of thought, abstaining from counselling is not a free pass to "perfectly fine" either. The more you know about mental health the more symptoms you see in absolutely everyone (in varying type and prominence). Having a dominant enough ego to protect you from understanding the flaws in your own mentality isn't necessarily constructive, and certainly doesn't make someone "perfectly fine".

TLDR: Nobody's perfect.
