Where did you hear that rumour?

Do you realize that the rights for Fallout Online are in dispute between Bethesda and Interplay? .. Alhough Bethesda should win because Interplay didn't manage to do enough work on it or raise enough capital to fulfill the contract.

That's old news.

http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/09/bethesda-and-interplay-settle-fallout-mmo-lawsuits-interplays/

Bethesda won almost 2 years ago. The dispute is why they went with TESonline first and why they chose Zenimax. It was on some of the Bethesda forums. I know a few minor people there. They've been in development with Zenimax for TESonline for years and I'm sure they went into full development mode for Fallout Online after they won. If their development schedule holds we'd see Fallout Online developed by Zenimax 2 and half years after Fallout 4 comes out next spring, so Fall of 2016 (I'm basing that off the discussion on the Fallout and Bethesda Forums which talked about the timing of the releases of Skyrim and TESonline and compared them to the Fallout games). Bethesda's trying to be more strict with their dev schedules and give at least a year between major releases apparently so that would push any new TES game to fall of 2017 which sucks. Hopefully they can get it done for the Fall of 2015 but that's less than 2 years and would probably be rushed. I'm hoping they don't hold to their new schedule and put Fallout Online out Fall of 2015 and then the new TES game out Fall of 2016.

As with anything in the gaming world it's all rumor until we can download it. (like Day-Z with all those fake Halloween secret release rumors. )

Get your timelines right.

TES Online has been in development since Oblivion came out and WoW was such a huge success. They knew they would be many years in development (as nearly every good MMO has been). When the whole fight with Interplay was going down, TES had been in development the whole time. Interplay had already decided they wanted to do a Fallout MMO (had been in demand since shortly after FO2 came out and the success of Ultima Online and EQ), and the deal was to have significant development started by some point in time (2009 if I recall) as part of the deal to sell the rights to the Fallout IP, but due to mismanagement (has been the case since Interplay fired Fargo as CEO), the lawsuits ensued and Interplay finally settled and gave up rights to the MMO, which was being called Project V13 because these guys were camping the name Fallout Online. Also, if I recall correctly, there, at some point, was a Cease & Desist filed in international courts to get the name back under Interplay/Bethesda/Zenimax.

I've been following this whole thing like a hawk since the sale of the Fallout IP and the Fallout MMO was confirmed as "to be developed."

Some of these guys MIGHT be hired on to work on the Fallout MMO, but nowhere have I seen any word of this "rumor/" (It's a rumor if it is semi-substantiated somewhere on the Internet, but not officially annouced.) I'm not labeling myself an expert on the developments in the official Fallout world, but I'm not some passerby, either.

Darwoth wrote:is this the new fonline 2238? last i heard it got shut down and the source code was made public.

was a fun game to mess around in, i played it a bit prior to salem. and yeah, like all free games you had about a 500 to 1 ratio of russian hackers/cheaters/scripters/zergers vs normal players.

was definitely not a fan of how you could not find people in the "wild" except by random encounter triggers, because of that all pvp was done at the towns unless you randomly triggered a pve spawn that someone else was already in. first week after a reset was always fun for me, most retards were still running around with crappy weapons but by the end of the first few hours on the first day i was pick pocketing the good stuff off of mutant patrols then annihilating entire groups of people in town

New fonline 2238 would be FO: Reloaded. FO2 was being developed in secret and was released after 2238 got closed. They did get source code too which is giving them ability to finish their dev plan for their serv faster.
FO2 had bigger player base than Reloaded(FO2 was released faster than Reloaded so that might be the case too). That changed after some time and now, Reloaded have more players at peak times. People were saying that they'll be back after wipe etc. I guess soon enough we will see which serv will be the last one standing ;p

What I like in FO2 is that there ain't any secure mining camp/private mines. You want stuff? Go scavenge it in wasteland from junk and stuff you get from npcs(hence its much easier to meet someone). There is 'scavenge' skill which in last session did nothing. I suppose that now after wipe we might see it being fully working skill(as in: higher skill=more stuff found). Changelog should be posted 2nd or 3rd November.(they just said: pre-wipe).

To say the truth I do not remember 2238 being so easy as Reloaded is atm. Might be my memory as it was long time ago when I played there but.. I played -at max- 6h on Reloaded. Got my private mine, like 8 blueprints, combat armors, and 150+k caps left in bank. (not to mention getting 1 char to 22 level and 2 to 16(those 2 with just mining and crafting random crap). Shop camping/selling worst stuff possible gave me all that caps. (i was tripple clienting through :P). Hence why I decided that Reloaded is too easy.
Oh yeah if you remember crafting: Reloaded is the same as 2238 was. No crafting in bulk. FO2 have that feature. (dissasembling stuff is still done by hand).
There is some feature that they added recently in Reloaded. You can see names of players that are on same map grid as you are. Althrough you can't force them into encounter(maybe they'll change it later? would be cool).
Lots of people is playing on Reloaded so probably it's not as bad as I see it. Personal preferences I guess.

Darwoth wrote: first week after a reset was always fun for me

I agree. Lots of players coming back, everyone on field trying to exp/get gear. Fun.

Dunno about Reloaded but on FO2 sneak is crappy skill. Even with stealth boy and max stealth you are still visible from a lot of tiles. (not to mention that weight is making you much less stealthly). Stealing in towns is kinda non existant too as guards seems to have 50% chance to spot you even if you succed in stealing..losing karma cause of that is painfull.(at least I heard so).

Surely I won't be playing it as often as I played salem but hopefully I'll get some fun after wipe.(that depends if people are going to come back from Reloaded now or wait 1 month more. We will see I guess.)

As for MMOs made by big companies. I'm always afraid that they'll just turn it into another typical mmo-clone for easy and fast profit. Hence I'm not holding my breath for that real Fallout Online. Ofcouse I would love to be pleasantly suprised. (trying not to read anything related to it so I won't be dissapointed later on)

I didn't mean to say Zenimax wasn't developing while the dispute with interplay was going on. From what I understood, when Interplay's FOonline started to fall apart Bethesda turned to Zenimax to dev all their MMo's with TESonline going first, then after they won the lawsuit Fallout Online next with the same game engine. I'm sure they're going to get the game name back.

Are you going to play TESonline next spring? That's probably the only game that will drag me away from this one.

Now that you mention it I might have seen you in game, Chip! I was always named Rembrandt. This was way back, though. Might have even been before I started with HnH.

Anyhow, like I said this new world will only be temporary. If I ever go back I'll want it to be a little more completed. From what I can remeber it was only full loot, not permadeath. With an inventory full of 30k caps for a new base that's pretty much the same thing, though . :P

game was really fun minus the russian mobs.

I got to play TES online with their last beta weekend. I really wasn't that impressed.

It was a lot of fun to have clan battles and take towns.

One time I was leveling my heavy and someone random encountered me.
This person had a crit sniper with a BB gun;
Shot me in the legs while rats attack me and kept keeping me face down.

Ofcourse I lost. I couldnt do a damn thing  .
Fun to do but ***** broken if it happens to you.
Combat armor and a flame thrower and you get killed by a bluesuit with a BB and some rats haha.

I'm not even sure what nick I used in-game when I played FO for the first time(althrough Rembrandt rings a bell). Was (probably) either Chiprel or Trojan. It was so long ago that I can't recall most of the player names that I met back then. You have better memory than I do so I you say that we met before in FO I'll belive that. It's small world for hardcore/crafting/indie mmo players =)

Nice! Unfortunately you won't give it a spin later today :(
