I know in H&H it was the way that the russians tended to go after anyone that was not russian. However, twice I had encounters with russians to whom I spoke to politely and friendly. I openly told them I was from the US, but tried to keep the conversation going and acted as if they were a possible new friend. In both cases they kinned me and never bothered me. With one I actually shared a cave with. Sometimes there is nothing you can do, they will get you no matter what you do. Other times they will respect your respect for them and become pretty good friends. I say be honest and friendly and hope for the best.

yup, on my first hermit i ran across i think 2 russian guys south of me. (going by the font they used in area chat by mistake) seemed like decent guys really noobish as they didnt know what a lime field(pit) was until i told them but they were alright. havent seen them in awhile.

but alot of russian players get treated poorly or out right shunned by people for being russian do to a few russians that act like aholes or players claiming to be russian..

honestly the MM group could run around using google translate to spam random russian fonts and claim to be russian no one would really know other wise :/

Well I'm a member of Dis which at its core is russian based. Spent a year listening to russians speaking in voice chats/text on skype etc and they've all been very nice people. It's not exactly a race thing, just be polite and offer help for help etc. If they're OP they'll likely decline but really all you can do is be polite and honest with them.

Possibly. In H&H my group used to call itself Koreans or Japaneese while raiding someone, to just have fun seeing someone posting 'Dirty Koreans killed me!'.
Also, H&H Russian community already passed the stage of hating everything non-russian-speaking. If those people were really Russians, they probably either really new to H&H and Salem (in other online games some kids are really nazi), or they were checking whether they could communitcate with you/ find out whether you belong to something bigger.

I was polite, or at least not rude. I, however, feel like it's pretty impolite to insist on asking rl information about someone in an online game. I tried to be friendly, but he didn't want to talk about anything other than where I was from irl, and when I wouldn't tell him he walked off immediately. I guess it's just another aspect of Salem, but it smacks awfully close to real world discrimination to me. *shrugs*

Why it bothers you that he asked is odd to me. It's not exactly a very personal or revealing question to answer.

'Where are you from?'
"Canada"

How hard is that?

Even if you don't like your own country(or think that other people dont like your country), you could always just lie about it anyways.

You aren't quite giving him your home adress and facebook information. If you're keeping hiding where are you from, it makes the person feel like you're hiding something or do not trust.
Not saying they wouldn't kill you even if you'd say where are you from in real life. BUT, nothing softens ones heart more than a really polite person who shows trust and is willing to be helpful.

I usually fall back on a somewhat neutral country, like Canada or Switzerland.
