I hate the tinder drill!

Are there certain ways to reduce fail chances with the tinder drill? I don't think I've had more than one break before being successful, but I don't think I did anything special. Just lady luck I suppose.

You would think that sparks and embers would help you out but I have no idea if it matters. I have the base sparks and embers proficiency and it's a total mixed bag on results. Sometimes I get it in one shot, other times I've had it take me 5 attempts.

Same here, since the new servers came out I only broke like one or two tinderdrills over maybe 20 times lighting a fire (and I always forget to log out with a lit torch) while back in Plymouth I broke like one or two drills almost everytime I tried to light a fire.
On the new servers I rushed my Sparks & Embers for coaling, in Plymouth I got coaling pretty late.
To me it definately looks like S&E would affect the failing rate but this is just an assumption from what I've seen.

I was trying to convince some people at Paradox to make "The tinder drill broke" t-shirts (or whatever the message you get is) but it never happened.

The design was awesome though...
