I don't remember there being much of an issue, like client-side lag? That can be handled by more finely tuned client settings to handle more models (which may not be available right now to the degree needed for that, but could be added). Otherwise if server lag then that's something that server upgrades could help to a degree, and code/architecture optimizations could help more. I think mechanics, map size, economy, and the way providence works in general (trading, room to move around, stalls, etc) are much more challenging issues than just getting a client to be able to keep track of 200 things moving around at once... Although that's not necessarily entirely trivial either, but again, with more players comes more revenue comes more development resources.

Isn't a quick fix making the player's hitbox smaller?

In that case, I would say it's impossible for it to be a bad thing if more players joined. Though a qualitative word like bad or good is almost entirely subjective. A player or Dev can only bring to the game what they have to bring, and it is up to everyone as a whole to determine what the game is or how it could be described to an outsider. If it was a lag issue because of too many players, I would say hooey to them if they were upset by anything other than a terrible response time by the devs.

In my opinion, this game desperately needs more players in order for it to be interesting. I think at least 5-10 towns with 30-50 members each would be enough for it to be endlessly fascinating with possibilities. That's just my opinion and could also be entirely wrong. Not only do I think it would be more interesting but I feel like most of the new mechanics of the game are suggesting to the players to form larger and larger groups.

I really want more players as well. I just hope if more players join they won't be turned off by something silly like I listed above. I only listed them because I can see new players being annoyed by them and quitting over something trivial

I think we could solve almost all the lag issues if Devs created a US server.

All content still crosses the ocean and there's just the single server somewhere in Europe right now.

That's the big one to do first.

I am not sure how that would help at all. As far as I am aware, most Salemites are not from USA. Therefore moving the server would only move the issue.

Multiple servers you say......

Either way, from what I have heard is that they have already put some effort into it since the takeover. I doubt its very pressuring for them with the current playerbase.

Well I've only seen it when there's a lot of players or other objects in one area.

You should get a better connection or computer.

No one can help Java being bad, thats probably the cause of it, nothing to do with connections, the server, or their computer.

I've told a string of people who have been complaining about lag recently to downgrade to Java 7 as that helps. Most of whom have reported that it did.
