Not too long ago I came home overencumbered from a long foraging trip and on the home stretch I ran into a coal clamp. Knowing that I was completely out of coal at that moment I didn't want to miss that chance and started collecting coal. I gained a madness level and of course this madness episode where a flame eats through your inventory and you can't touch it cause it'll ko you happened. It was the first time I had it happen to me, so naturally I touched the flame (duh) and ko'd, losing hours of foraging. I cursed this game a lot and felt like flipping a table or something, but then I just continued doing whatever it was I was doing.
These things happen and it's important that they do, because those are the kind of mistakes you really learn from.
Just man up and carry on, there's much more to get pissed about in this game, you wouldn't wanna miss it.

Does it really KO you? I've had it numerous times, guess I never touched it.

well to be honest I'm not sure what's the appropriate way to get rid of it because I only had it once, but I lost my blood upon clicking it, or at least I believe so.

Game probably is not for him if a KO after extended forage session pisses you off try logging in to discover your character has a claim placed on it.

I think you have to ctrl drop it. I know feeding it coal is not the answer lol.

I remember then madness first came out someone said it only KOs you if you let it grow into an inferno, and it takes several seconds for it to consume the coal in your inventory, so yu have a window where its possible to touch and remove it.

Anyway, Yeah dude, **** happens, every person on this forum has had something like this happen to them, your not alone.

Best thing to do in that situation is to take a couple hour break, go play a game that makes you laugh, then come back with a clear head and recover what you lost.

alright, I didn't have my inventory opened because at that point it took up the entire screen, only noticed it through Kandarim's lovely weight gadget when I saw the numbers decreasing, it's possible it had turned into an inferno already.

Just move (shift+click) the purple flame to your empty backpack or a container, same with the sifting golden ring

Two days ago I wandered about after making a new char on Providence for like 4 hours trying to get as far away from other people's bases etc active or abandoned; collecting as I went.
Finally made a base ( a leanto >;D ) and decided I wanted to make the crow feather cape, which is 25 crow feathers.
I wandered and wandered for another three hours or so and at 23 feathers, a cougar killed me as I was wondering back to my leanto.
Got off for the night.
Wandered again the next day, made it to 20 feathers and a bunch of other things ( Torn tentacle, three salamanders etc ) before a timber rattler killed me and I dropped all my feathers again.
Today I made my cloak (more wandering ._. )and have moved on to other things, but anyways my point is don't let a small thing like this cause you to quit you can always rebuild and make something better; im sure there were some things you wished you had done differently but it was more hassle to destroy and move.
