Salem vs. H&H

Postby pareod375 » Tue Apr 30, 2013 4:12 am

So there are about 200 players on Salem at any given time. I just looked at H&H and there are 210 Hearthljngs currently playing. Besides the fact that these numbers are rather low, it's kind of sad that the sequel is doing just up to par, if not less, than its predecessor. I just started Salem and am having a lot of fun with it. Wish more people would play.

Fact is that HnH is just more fun to play in every way possible. Its much more rewarding and less of a grind in some ways.

HnH pop is usually higher then salem even on weekends.

Graced by the legendary Dallane :P. I'll have to give H&H a try then. What's different about it?

Everything really. They changed alot of it for salem which was good but salem is just getting to the point where it takes forever to get any sort of reward and in the end it has no real value. Silver means nothing at all really. Economy in salem is nonexistent compared to hnh.

Combat is more exciting and rewarding then run till phlegm is out while trying to leap at and thrust a person to death or try to land a shot hoping your opponent ***** up. The community is 100% better and more helpful.

There are alot of really lame bugs that have not been fixed yet but that's not 2 big of a deal if you are watching out.

So which would you recommend getting into? I've been having fun with Salem, but don't want to work on a dead end game.

They are two separate, distinct games featuring permadeath, raiding, and a general sandbox atmosphere. One of the games is currently being backed by a large, international publishing company in the gaming industry. The other is a pet project of the developers. Development of HnH, to my knowledge, has largely halted so they could work on Salem, the game that I'm guessing will pay their bills.

Salem is in its infancy compared to HnH. It's not as honed, its committed player base is not as large as HnH (due to many players being from HnH and having since returned for a few reasons), and it lacks many planned features at this stage of the beta. However, because Seatribe has to answer to Paradox, unlike with HnH, you can probably put your money on Salem being finished eventually as opposed to its predecessor.

All that being said, go play HnH for a while, talk to the community, and get a feel for the game. If you like it, play it. If not, it wasn't time wasted to gain the experience and see what inspired Salem.

That all depends on you. Salem isn't a dead end game its just not nearly finished yet. I don't particularly like the direction its going but I still have fun with it. Compared to HnH I feel salem will not be anywhere near as put together as hnh.

Join #haven and talk to loftar sometime. He has been meaning to do some fixes to hnh but never gets around to it.....ever.

Haven has a much different feel to it than Salem. Just less grindy and more fun to play, I don't think I'd have even played Salem past closed beta if the lag wasn't eating Haven alive at the time.

Salem's still fun, but the fun doesn't last nearly as long as it does in Haven to me. Also, Haven has B12's, so it wins by default.

Also, I've just read Loftar updated the kernel today. Lag was fierce but it's apparently evened out again
