How dumb are the ones we love

Postby kitty629 » Sat Aug 13, 2016 1:28 am

I came home from work today to find that the fan and screen in my second story window was knocked out and my 86 lb German Shephard was loose outside. Apparently she wanted to get out. She is limping and taking her in to be evalulated at the emergency clinic. I just have to boggle at what the thought process was there as she is normally pretty intelligent.

My dog almost died shortly after I got him (he was a puppy).

I had gotten him four different chew toys yet he chose to silently squeeze between my couch and an end table and chew through a lamp cord. I heard a "bzzt bzzzzzzt" and then the light went out.

He was completely limp and unresponsive. I didn't know what to do so I put him on the couch and started doing chest compressions. He was so small I was doing them with my index and middle fingers behind his back and my thumbs on his chest.

He regained consciousness but seemed extremely disoriented and weak. The vet at the emergency clinic said that the compressions were actually the perfect thing to do, except my hand placement was pretty wrong.

He's almost 12 now. Still pretty stupid, but he never chewed on another cord.

Blame your neighbor's cat.

Some temptations are just too much for any of us (human or animal).

I have a puppy that won't stop breaking into things and stealing shoes. She isn't even that young anymore. The other dogs have all stopped doing that **** but she just doesn't understand that I am going to club her like a seal if she doesn't cut it the hell out.

I also have two beagles. When one of them gets off her chain, she doesn't go far. Mostly, she gets stuck in the swamp and I have to go get her. The trouble is, she won't make any noise if she knows you are looking for her. It seems to be a "Well, they are coming to rescue me. I can stop calling for help now" kind of thing. I can't find her if she is silent. The other one will ***** vanish into the swamp and only reappear miles away after someone calls up to tell me that they saw the signs I hung up the day before and wanted to tell me they found my beagle on the other side of town and that they are thinking of "just keeping him. He ran away for a reason right?" and then they change their minds when I tell them he is 13 years old and he bites one of them for pulling on his ear or grabbing his ass. He hates that ****, and will bite hard if you do either.

Most animals are indeed very stupid, especially humans.

May be your approach was wrong all along, and you should try to get his attention with tasty treats and toys and promises of comfy fluffy pet-bed?
