Are there actually sane people in salem

First i have to clarify sth. English is not my native language, but i am fairly confident thats good, at least good enough, but maybe i didn't get sth english idoms or cultural references and such.

But I can't figure out whats going on in this forum with all These heffs and clayts and darwoths etc. even jc is a mystery for me. Every post one of them is writing leads to some kind of argument, calling names, moaning about all the carebears (what does that even mean). I seldom see a thread in wich normal people talk to each other except in the trade section where conversation is strict about buinsness. are there actually people who play salem to cooperate and build up a society or do they all get raided because of tears? even the comments of jc are seemingly just troll posts. wich ist a kind of odd behavior for a developer, but ok thats salem. but with a mmo like salem you would think to see communitys with political and social interaction but all you find is destruction and weird groups of seemingly insane or just trolling guys who raid bases just because of tears and FUN, and Beef between These strange groups. But it seems there are no normal communities in here or are they just not in the forum?

All i want to say is this forum is kind of strange and i want to get in touch with normal people instead of sociopaths, trolls and griefers.

Nevertheless i quite enjoy the game even tho it has some strange design decisions but i guess it can afford those due to the lack of alternatives. I like the way salem really estabilsh a sense of crafting even though the most of them involve some kind of progress bars, but i feels different than all These progressbars in other crafting sandbox games.

There aren't many but there are "normal" people out there. Most of the crazy people on here are also totally different off the forum.

First of all, welcome to the Salem forums. This is a tough place to end on, and when you're not used to it, you do not understand where you are.

There is something important you have to put in your mind here : everything is relative. People are from different cultures, different educations, and have very different behaviors than what we usually see when we don't travel the internet that much.

Alright now that you have this in mind let's answer your questions :
- Sanity and normality are very relative terms. You do not seem sane to me, coming here asking these questions. If you meant "good thinking" people, you're on the wrong forum. If you meant "people I can normally talk to", everyone is up to do that, just not on the forums, forums are not a chatbox. Except CuaH actually...
- A carebear is a nice, gentle and helping player that would rather suicide his char than raiding someone. This is also a carebear :

- There are plenty of communities that don't play the forum game. You can see plenty of people in the Trade Winds that do not want to have anything to do with the House of Burgesses.
- You don't get raided if you know how to play. You get raided if you 1) insult the wrong person 2) leave scents at the wrong place 3) have a crappy base.
- It takes time to build political and social interactions with people. More time than people actually have. Unfortunately, those who have the time to build them end building negative interactions and they destroy each other (and showing to the forums how and when). The others don't need to yell on the roofs who they are friends with anyway, or if they do their posts end on a lost corner of the forum because who cares ?
- If you want to get in touch with people, use the subforum Planters and Pilgims.

Nice question, and I am sure many people have had it. Back in the day (2012/2013) the forums were almost a second game. You saw a lot of the same antics, but personally I think it is much more 'nasty' than it use to be. The drama in the game and forums were much better, I think Cotton's post about the tribe is a good example. As bad as it was, they did bring a lot of entertainment in both the game and forums. I have seen others (and I have also) use the word 'toxic', and that seems to fit as my best word for the current state of things in both the forum and actions of the active folks (devs, mods, players). There is no 'safe' place other than PM with the nicer folks, and that is unfortunate but it appears that is the desired state.

There are some great people, very helpful and good to play with, you just need to get away from the forum to truly see it. Lots of history, and lots of passion for sure, and if you look you can find the sane ones, but as a rule they are likely not openly active on the forums as much. Even some of the folks that appear crazy are pretty nice, but they are playing their part so don't take all you read as an indication of that being their IRL personality.

As to the carebear question - I like to use the EVE online reference, but others will argue about that. It is a person that does not do PVP for whatever reason (i.e. I am no good at it, so I am a self-proclaimed carebear). Some people talk about them wanting to have the perfect village with paving and eye-candy but others, like myself, like to do their best to enable to killers to do what they do. I really like the game and helping (as a crafter) enable the PVP'ers do their thing is what I enjoy. So being an active player in a village and focusing on your craft (whatever it is) but not taking part in the PVP aspect of the game.

I've told newer people this before but there's a deeep history to the Salem Drama and Forums that the veteran players know about but flies right over the head of newer players. It's sort of like Eve in that respect. There are long histories of INDIVIDUAL drama though not just group drama. You'll eventually catch up if you stick around. There are many, many people who rarely if ever go on the forums and are top players in the game. The Forums are one big drama and some of us enjoy it almost as much as the game.

You can't be a top player in this game by yourself. Even Darwoth and Alloin play with other people. You'll find many groups willing to recruit if you look hard enough and are willing to follow their lead.
