I realize that Everquest was one of the first mmos and one of the two first big mmos, so it deserves some degree of respect for that alone, but it is hard to get hyped over this. By any and every standard, if the game wasn't one of the first it would have burned and died for its mediocre setting and uninspired development direction. Concurrently, as Everquest was building the model of 'Grind endgame longer to get gear to grind more endgame' and normalizing poopsocking, other companies actually were bringing good ideas to the table. Then again I had a hard-on for games like Subspace and Lineage around that time and only got into Ultima Online and Everquest in middle school, so what do I know?
It is nice that it's taking a large step away from its current model and essentially becoming Second Life and a modern Ultima Online but with its development history, I'll wait and see what comes of Landmarks before I pass any kind of judgments on it.
