Hmmm... I've been trying it out for a few days now and I like it. Maybe it gets worse at higher levels, but I haven't noticed any sort of grind yet and I do love the quest path that can be turned on or off. Also, the 'companion' feature is awesome.

The grind will come at endgame-level. It is similar to Star Trek online: quite nice VO'ed quests while leveling, then long, monotonous grind at level 50.
In feudalism, it's your count that votes...

I`m playing Neverwinter and Star-Trek-Online.

Ground combat system of neverwinter is special and feels very action orientied, like Diablo 3, and pvp is fine, too. Star Trek Online space combat is still unique and absolutly best space combat in mmo market.

Both games have no restriction on content for F2P-players. You also can make your own missions/quests, publish it and earn your shop points by users playing your missions. It`s also possible in both games to grind your premium curreny ingame and exchange it to shop currency. The crafting system in both games is similar and some sort of it`s own browsergame as you recrut officers/soldiers and are sending them to missions bringing crafting materials or new better soldiers. Missions change by area and time and there are rare soldiers etc....

In STO endgame atm is about building your fleet starbase, which needs massive amounts of ressources, but also doing fleet missions...With your fleet starbase you can build better starships. There is also a reputation system in place which unlocks new story elements, equip and locations - you can call that grind.

A good time to (re)-start STO would be 21.5. as STO gets it first big expansion bringing a whole new third faction (romulan empire) from level 1 to 50. The second faction (klingon empire) also gets now full content with story and missions from level 1to 50.
