Not sure in other country's or states, but in california, in order for a dealer to sell a vehicle, it has be run through smog safty and mechanical inspections. Which despite the fact people here hate the dealers, they often have the better quality vehicles.

Are those inspections anything tho? We have them in Texas and they are questionable. My old car was like 20 years old, leaked oil something aweful, driver door didn't work, muffler gone, etc and I passed all safety and environmental inspections. I'm scared to see what kind of car fails these....

Mine failed once because the front driver side window was tinted 5% too dark. I had seen much darker windows out there so I don't know, I guess maybe they were just fishing for a bribe? They didn't hint hard enough though, and I wasn't going to offer. :P Ended up just paying to retint it lighter.

I recall when I was in highschool, the city of Seattle's tourism board put out a thing telling tourists not to associate with craigslist users. From what I remember, they basically claimed that all craigslist users were like dirty hobos or criminals.

As for cars, my stepfather bought me my first one from an auto repair place for 100$. It ran well for six years with no problem until the engine died. I got to drive it twice. Right now that car is rotting away in the swamp with the transmission hanging out of it because my stepfather can't be bothered to fix it and because I will not drive it. We got it running for a day after it had sat in the swamp collecting moss for four years. Once it was running again, it was a nightmare to drive. The steering is loose as hell, the electronics are shot to hell from disuse, and the car drifts hard to the left.

The car I use now has a faulty door lock. It only has one door lock on the entire vehicle. If you try to lock the door electronically, as the makers intended, the manual locking mechanism and the electronic mechansim don't line up properly and the key is rendered useless. The only way to unlock it is the keyfob. Both of the keyfobs are dead. Had to break the window out with a hammer to get in and then almost had to do it again after we replaced the window. God damn electric locks.
