Returning Player looking for a group

Postby Dopefly » Tue Mar 10, 2015 5:15 pm

I played a while under the old management. ..humors were in the 80s...had a nice plot...I tend to have a lot of play time. I like farming and hunting. So really open to anything to help out. My Wife and son play too. She liked hunting, he thinks he is a pvper.

We played with some Raiders for a while...so any play style is welcome.

New to the new patches though. ..been gone about a year.

Let me know if any groups are interested.

Well, I logged in a few months ago and rerolled. I got a sled going and a bit of training, but much just a couple days. Felt a bit behind so I took some time off, moved states, got busy then decided to come back.

Sadly, I was not fully read up on all of the patches, there were quite a few so kudos on that, but I logged in and did not realize that without a leanto.. mine had vanished, I would remain online. I felt safe in town, only to discover that I was diseased, got permadeath and character wiped. I had to search the forums to figure that out, and why my character was gone. I know the game, have died before, so it wasn't that big of a hit. I did feel that to a new player, such a harsh intro might severely turn people away. The disease is a bit much and considering its rampant in town, you could get diseased within your first MINUTE of play.

I do like the changes overall though, skill trees have expanded nicely. Alot of great improvements on inspirations and I do like the inspiration meter(?), just took me a bit to realize it was different. It does feel like you did things we were waiting for and I do like the Sunday Events. I actually WON a frog race!! It still feels like Salem, and doesn't feel it went in a completely different direction.

I think the tutorial needs to cover these things a bit more than just character creation and reading all of those tabs. When you start a game last thing you want to do is start reading pages of systems you can't really participate in.. such as gluttony or claims. Not exactly the first 5 minutes.

I think it would be nice to have something like a miasma mask for newbies, but maybe only lasts a couple hours, just so they don't get permakilled before leaving town.

Very nice synopsis.

As for disease. It takes on average 6+ hours to die to it. I feel strongly that any player who PLAYS for 6+ hours and cannot manage to overcome that very minor hurdle was probably not cut out for this game in the first place.

I don't know how much of a minor hurdle it is.

Are medicines easy to craft? not at all.
Is information available in the form of pop-ups? yes, but limited.
Are medicines early game? You kidding. (maybe a few)

Actually the only way for a noob to get cured from rat diseases is asking someone experienced !

The quick way to get rid from this is a pop-up, warning people to not get near vomiting pilgrims in town. But some people don't read pop-ups

Talking to older players is a must for anyone new, it is the best way for them to get cheap (often free) seeds as well as usually a lot of extra starter stuff if they can find the right kind of souls. While it is true a new player will struggle to cure his own illness it is a valuable lesson in how the game works, even experiencing a death right off the bat should be a great way to separate the wheat from the chaff. Dopefly is very clearly wheat ;) and will be an asset to any town he and his family joins.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

I hope you are gonna introduce how to cure diseases in the tutorial or else gives a buff to the new arrivals (Pioneer's Spirit) that makes them immune to the disease for a day or two.

I already implemented how to cure disease. Its a NPC right in the middle of town that spams area chat to come to the forums. Anybody who does so will quickly and easily find out how to cure diseases. Anyone who doesn't deserves to die.
