The movie is rather well-known propaganda in which a main argument is that Germans hate the act of merchanting without producing. Basically, they consider people who just sell/buy without producing to be parasites.
Since propaganda often uses hyperbole, illogical argumentation and lies, don't be surprised if you disagree with some things there.
It is an interesting movie for historical reasons.
Edit: if you search for the title of the video in wikipedia, you'll find quite much information about its background as well.

But yeah, in D&D a bard would stop leveling if he moved up in alignment past neutral chaotic. And merchants do basically make their living off the misfortunes of others. All of my best business arrangements happened during sieges, often from both parties
