I think it is due to not having to use your car to get to portals.

PoGo encourages you to walk or bike around to find stuff and hatch eggs. Pokemon are both random and spawn from the previous XM spots so if you are experienced with ingress you will know exactly where pokemon are going to spawn when you see them on your radar. Right now ingress has more features and in the future PoGo will be the better game.

I watched a video yesterday of people gathering together to test various climates/timezones/geography and that it is not completely random in terms of where certain pokemon types spawn more frequently.

It's mainly determined from Ingress data and cell activity in a area. If you go to a high traffic area like a mall or park and open the tracker you will track down pokemon to the exact same spots that you get XM or whatever the white dots are on Ingress. Ingress data has a HUGE impact on where things are spawning. THOSE spawns are set and will respawn pokemon in those areas. My neighborhood is 100% pokemon free even with a scent going. If I go down the road where there is a stop/portal then I will see the XM and have pokemon spawning. I haven't really tested it outside of tracking so I can't really comment on things that just pop up. As for certain types and such spawning I have no idea. It seems like I get a lot of ground types other than the common stuff here in texas. Apparently on the river walk there is a crazy amount of different types spawning.

It's all really interesting on how it works.

Ah, I was actually just talking about the types(normal, water, fighting, etc)
Does running incense actually not spawn any pokemon at all in your area and are there not pokemon in the nearby tab that appears on the bottom right of the phone?
Incense are meant to spawn pokemon separate from the nearby pokemon tab which is weird as to why you don't get much with it.

People say they plan on adding more pokestops and spawns to areas that have little of it which would be really nice, afterall, a lot more people are playing pokemon go than those who have played ingress imo.

Unless I go about half a mile down the main road of my subdivision absolutely nothing will spawn or appear on the radar.

I really hope they do add more. There are A TON more people playing both game now because of PoGo. There is a massive backlog of submissions from Ingress that they still haven't approved so maybe they will get in gear for both games.

semi interesting article (even if it is from ***** gawker with the usual sensationalism) with regard to privacy issues with this game, since i rarely use a cellphone for anything other than..... uh, talking to people (yeah, i know! im a weirdo!   ) i had no idea how much control of your **** you give over to this game.
