So i was logged out in my locked house. Asleep in a bed. Logged on and the st patty day hat is off my head and the metal pickax is gone out of my tool belt.

What game mechanic allow another player to steal this way? Sorry if this is a nub question, still learning the game.

Other players can steal from your Leanto, it doesn't matter where your character logged out.

I know that. I was in a small farm house, bound to the PC on his property. Locked inside. Asleep in a bed. No evidence of larceny. No crimes commited on this char. Guess I am just curious the game mechanic that allows this to happen so I can learn how to avoid it. Where should I put my gear apparently? lol

Your leanto/claim, your homestead is where they steal from, you could be logged out at the other end of the map, as long as they can access your homestead they can access your inventory.

And you don't need to commit crimes to get robbed.

Idk, build a wall around your homestead or put it in a box next to your bed in that locked house.

Gotcha. So they can right click a claim stone (similar to a leatno) and steal from your body. Thanks for the info I did not know/read that anywhere/ I will log out naked I guess from now on.

Larceny is the skill needed to do it.
And yes, they right-click your leanto/claimstone and get a "L3wt"-option and then see your equipment panel and your inventory.

They need to actually be able to walk right to it, so your best guess is to keep them from doing so. Walls, for instance do help with that.
